  7. Welcome to the Art Attack CD Rom. We hope you really enjoy using this

  30. Files

  33. Art Attack creates files on your hard disk whenever you choose to save
  34. pictures, stamps, animating characters and movies. The files are stored
  35. in these directories:
  36.  
  37. Movie files (*.mvi)
  38. ...\data\anims\user\
  39.  
  40. Pictures (*.bak)
  41. ...\data\backdrop\user\
  42.  
  43. Animated characters and stamps (*.act)
  44. ...\data\chars\user\
  45.  
  46. If you want to clear out the creations you make, simply delete files
  47. from these directories. The filenames created are built up in a sequencial
  48. order. For example, a movie names 00000001.mvi, will be the left most
  49. thumnail in the dialogue box.

  51. Flickering screen problem
  52. -------------------------
  53. If you experience any flickering of graphics while using Art Attack then
  54. this is most likely due to your system using a secondary 2D/3D card. In
  55. this case we advise you to switch your system into using its primary card.

  57. DirectX(tm) 5.2 Media
  58. ---------------------
  59.  
  60. What is DirectX(tm)? - DirectX(tm) 5.2 has been wholly developed by
  61. Microsoft(c) to run under Windows(c)95.  The result is that programs
  62. and software designed exclusively for Windows(c)95 and that are using
  63. DirectX(tm) routines are able to talk directly to the hardware.
  64. Therefore your software will run faster and your graphics will be
  65. smoother.  However, in order for DirectX(tm) 5.2 to work properly you
  66. must ensure that you have compatible DirectX(tm)5.2 drivers installed
  67. on your computer.

  69. Important - Although you may already have DirectX 5.0 installed it is
  70. important that you answer YES to the question "Do you want to install
  71. DirectX 5.2?" If you do not answer YES then DirectX 5.0 will not be
  72. upgraded and you will not see the Art Attack intro animation. The
  73. main Art Attack program will run correctly under DirectX 5.0 but we
  74. advise that you upgrade.

  76. * Troubleshooting
  77.  
  78. First and foremost, you must ensure that DirectX(tm) 5.2 is fully
  79. installed on your system.  To do this, re-run DirectX(tm) 5.2 from
  80. the CD-ROM by clicking on START > RUN and type:
  81.  
  82.  "D:\REDIST\DIRECTX\DXSETUP.EXE"
  83.  
  84.  (D: being the letter assigned to your CD Drive)
  85.  
  86. In the box that appears, you should have a list of all of the
  87. different DirectX(tm) 5.2 components.  All those in the list
  88. should have the word Certified and a version number. If some
  89. of the components in the list are not Certified, you will either: 
  90.  
  91. a)    Need to reinstall DirectX(tm) 5.2 or 
  92.  
  93. b)    If reinstalling doesn't work, you will need to contact the
  94.      suppliers of your system and ask them to provide updated
  95.      drivers for Windows(c) 95. 
  96.  
  97. The most common drivers in the list that aren't always updated are the
  98. Display driver or the Audio driver. The Display driver is the Video
  99. driver and the Audio driver is the Sound driver. If any of these are
  100. not updating, obtain the latest driver from your supplier and once
  101. installed, reinstall the DirectX(tm) 5.2 program.

  103. N.B. The latest drivers in DirectX(tm) 5.2 start with the number 4 etc.

  105. Art Attack has been developed and tested with the most recent versions
  106. of the DirectX(tm) 5.2 display drivers. Problems may be experienced
  107. while running Art Attack with older display drivers.  If you do
  108. encounter such problems, contact your video card manufacturer to
  109. obtain the most recent version of their display drivers.
